Ivan Shishkin - In The Wild North (1891)

Alongside Massive Attack, Portishead are held up high as the purest examples of Trip Hop straight outta Bristol. It's not unwarranted mind, their debut Dummy is almost flawless. Coming the same year as Massive Attack's sophomore effort Protection it has a lot in common with that LP actually, with most tracks featuring the the moody dulcet tones of Beth Gibbons a la Tracey Thorn and Nicolette Suwoton. Check it out if you're feeling the vibe in my favourite tune from the LP, Roads.
